Would Keith Olbermann still be as popular if he had dissenting viewpoints on his show?

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

At least with Hannity and O'Reilly,
To suggest those two are even close to Olbermann in objectivity, you have to be trolling.

Nice try.

:)

I was just saying that they at least sometimes offer opposing position guests. Olbermann never does. And I've been a Countdown watcher for 3+ years.

When you do not allow your guests to speak, is that an opposing viewpoint?

Although, I will admit BillO says some pretty on-target stuff every once in awhile.

Hannity

We need the fairness doctrine but everybody opposes it because they don't really want to hear the other guy speak.

I think Olberman and Hannity should team up
for a show.

The two extremes duking it out.

That dude Colmes, Hannity's "liberal" sidekick, never speaks up
when Hannity goes off in a rage.

I enjoy it when I'm pointed to a clip of his over the top oration and I'm glad he's there as a counterpoint to Hannity, Bill and Rush, but I'm just not much attracted to regularly watching any kind of "media personality's opinion" show -- that gets old almost immediately.

There's a huge difference between Hannity and Olbermann-Hannity is purely unsupported opinion, Olbermann at least looks for facts to back up what he says. Hannity reminds me of a drunk raving in a bar, and usually makes about the same amount of sense.

O'Reilly's a class A prick, but he at least thinks. Can't convict Hannity of ever doing that.

I admit, I watch Olbermann's show whenever I get the chance, but I sometimes get bored of the same liberal talking points and his lack of objectivity. And I also don't like the fact that no one calls him on his bullshit sometimes.

At least with Hannity and O'Reilly, they have opposing viewpoints on their shows -- even if they do get cut off or overtalked to death in verbal diarrhea. But Olbermann; he just goes unopposed and surrounds himself with guests that parrot everything he says -- where's the fun in that?

Not only that, but he asks so many leading questions that 99% of the time, his guests will just bow down and agree with whatever he says.

So what do you think? Would his show tank in the ratings with opposing viewpoints, or would the extra "noise" added in with some "friction" actually be a boost for him?

I don't think we will ever know.

He's the right wing in the mirror and I love him for it. He has the nuts to be as big of an asshole as Republicans are.

Except, the right wing shows like O'Reily and Hannity actually bring on guest with opposing view points.

How about Rush?

I'll let you know next time his tv show is on.

One nice thing about Olbermann's show is it isn't just a bunch of people yelling at each other with all the same talking points you've heard 100 times. I get so sick of the round tables where nothing is ever said. It would be nice if he had some opposing views as long as it didn't become a yelling match and please no fucking round tables.

Generally I think he make fairly decent points, but his special comments lately have been way over the top. He also sometimes makes way too much to ado about nothing.

Because who gets to define who the 'other guy' is?
