Would it make sense to add a roll cage to a daily driver?

From a safety aspect point of view? Like would it help you in say a side impact?

Lets disregard for the moment that it could potentially look ghetto.

i think they're more or less intended to prevent your head from getting squashed in the event your car manages to roll over, like a suv would. so if you drive an suv, i guess.

ehh.. well.. they sorta do exist.. i mean... they dont make the roof supports on cars out of paper.... its inner framework.... to kepe beauty... and obviously less effective then a full roll cage

it would technically make your car safer... if you ever rolled your car it would help.

Yeah I know, that's the passenger cage in general, but I was thinking like those aftermarket/racing ones.

I'm pretty sure they are strictly for looks, they like bolt onto your floor panels and would only inflict more damage than they could prevent, it would basically be just more crap flying around in your car in the case of an accident, rather than something that makes your car safer.. if you want a rollcage, spend alot and get a real one.. but since you're looking at one of those aftermarket add-ins you probably won't want to spend what a real roll cage is worth, nor is it probably practical for you.. - I would not put one of these in my car, Ever.

So do you mean real ones are really expensive? What's the difference between a real one and one that's just for looks?

One that is just for looks you can have in your car in 10 mins.. How could that be safe? a real cage is welded to the frame of the car and is made of heavier materials. (not necessarily HEAVIER, but stronger anyways) search for some pix of the inside of a Nascar or a Rally car, then take a look at one of those bolt-ins you buy at the speed shop.. not really the same thing.. like most things in the speed shop, it's for looks.. :)

I see, yeah you're right, a couple of bolts aren't really going to hold it in place in the event of a major car wreck.

Huh, I wonder why they even market them then. They make it harder to get in and out of the car. Just for looks seems like a retarded idea.

they ARE retarded, but only the retarded people actually buy these things as a "stylish addition" to their car.. I think most people realize they do nothing.. I personally think they kinda look dumb too.. if you're gonna have a roll cage... GET A DAMN ROLL CAGE.. not one of these metal swing set with instructions jobby.. pfft.. :D

OK I am off to bed.. nite guys!

Not all the bolt in ones are worthless. Just 99.9999% of them. There is one brand out there (the name escapes me) that is actually allowed to be used at one of the local racetracks here.

OuterSquare, do you plan on going into amateur track racing? If not then chances are you'll never need a roll cage since the chances of actually rolling your car is pretty slim, unless you're doing something stupid on the street. If you do plan on going into racing then I guess Autopower is pretty ubiquitious.
