Remember the caddies that were first around when CD-ROMs arrived on the scene? do you think it's a good or a bad thing that they ceased to exist? On one side, yeah they were bulky and would have forced drives to be that bit bigger, but everyone must have been through the PITA that is trying to read from an old CD that's been left lying somewhere and scratched to hell. If it was standard for all CDs to be sold in caddies and remain there, this wouldn't happen.
