would it be worth it to upgrade from a nvidia 4600 to an ati 9600?

I would venture to say no. With a Ti4600 a jump to a 9800 NP or 5900 NU would be required to notice a huge difference.

In most games, moving from a ti4600 isn't an upgrade--usually it's a fairly large downgrade.

It's not a big upgrade at any rate. Especially if you're talking about the 9600 non-pro. That would be a big downgrade.

Or if you like 4XAA and 8XAF... then yeah, I'd say it would be worth it... since you could sell the Ti4600 for about $150, then your 9600 Pro would end up costing you around $25

It's probably not worth it unless you can sell your Ti4600 to recoup some of the cost. The 9600 Pro/XT will murder your Ti4600 when you crank up the AA/AF settings.

Actually, Ti4600's are going for more like <$120 now...

Better yet a $200 5900NU will stomp the 9600s and the 4600s at everything except PS2, and be about as good at that as the 9600. There are only 2-3 PS2 games, odds are you don't own them.

Either way, you still get the 9600 Pro at a good price... and if you can wait for the 9600XT you'll also get HL2 for free... AND ATI's anti-aliasing is superior to nVidia's. 2XAA on an ATI card looks like 4XAA on an nVidia card.

Hey everyone,

I have a Ti4400, do you think an upgrade to a 9800 Pro would be worth it? Would it be a noticable upgrade?
Thanks for your help.

For sure it's worth the upgrade, specially if you can catch a good holiday sale. I went from a GF4200 to a 9800 and I'm loving the framerates with the maxed out details. Currently playing U2k3 @ 1200x900 4xAA Max Details, MP2 12x9(100) 4x/8x Max Details.

Depends... are you satisfied with the way games play on your Ti4400? If so, wait for the next generation of cards before you upgrade, cause like I've been saying, any card you buy right now will not run tomorrow's games at what most gamers would consider acceptable rates.
