Would it be worth it to spend the extra $ to get win XP insted of using win 98?

I am building my first computer and i have a copy of win 98 from the famly computer that i was going to use, but after reading the Maximum PC review of WinXP i am wonder if it would be worth spending the extra $. And for a home computer would i get any extra performance/ features that i would use for surfing net, email, school sh*t, and alot of games if i got WinXP pro over home.
 
well, the thing is, you won't have to boot after every few games with xp because it manages the memory much better than 98. that is one reason why I would upgrade alone. i just can't stand rebooting and rebooting after a few games.
 
But is it worth the money b/c i dont have a job and my parents are makin me pay for my computer, so it is kinda hard coming up with $100.
