i have the case shown here:
http://www.2cooltek.com/lan.html

I have 2 antec 80mm fans (exhaust rear, intake front).
as you can see on the webpage linked above, the rear and front locations for the fans have grates covering them. Would there be better performance if i cut them out and used fan grills? Note that i use the case without the front plastic bezel on.

Currently, the intake fan does not seem to intake much, but I can really feel the air when i pull it out of the case and i feel the difference is the metal fan grate. The rear fan is heating the metal surrounding it.

I think it's best to cut them out. I also make myself a 3 in deep plastic duct out of PVC from Home Depot plumbing department so that the fans are well inside the tower case I use. That way less noise makes it's way out the intake, but you still have maximum airflow.

Yes. This is a common method to improve airflow. Getting nice holes requires the right tools, skills, and a lot of patience.

Always gut the case before you start, and be sure not to leave any metal shavings behind. Practice on some similar metal or in the areas you plan to remove.

The front bezel can be drilled out with a pattern of holes or one large hole/wire grille, depending on the look you want.
