A 2010 genesis coupe for a 2005 corvette?

I love my GC but I lust for more power and better handling for autocross. I found a 2005 targa top in my area though according to Edmunds it is way overpriced (26k asking vs 16k by Edmunds)

Of course, I could wait for the C7 to hopefully crash the corvette market prices too....

My car: 2010 GC 2.0T R-Spec. 38k miles
Their car: 2005 corvette targa top with 55k miles

I find it hard to believe that a reasonable mileage C6 legitimately goes for $16k.

NADA suggests $22.3k trade in for an absolute bottom spec 2005 with 55k miles and basically $26k retail. I don't think looking for 26k is really as out of line as you think it is. $16k is wishful thinking.

That said, hell yes I'd do that trade any day.

Never did autocross (only road coarse track days), but wouldn't the power of a corvette be wasted on a short autocross?

I would think going lighter would be a better direction

I'd go for it on depreciation alone, at least the corvette won't depreciate down to nothing.

No. We usually run on a coarse that is small by autox standards and the vettes are usually around the top if not the top. We have more vettes than any other single type of car show up too.

yeah most 2005 and 2006's are $25-30k right now. they've held steady for the past 4-5years.

i wonder why edmunds undervalues them so much in that case. same thing if you look at old vipers. a posting i saw was for 30k, but edmunds valued it at 20k.

The vette is about 100lbs lighter anyways, and more power, more absolute grip, should be a faster car on almost any track.

IMO, I follow the Vette a lot and I would do a 2006+ or a C5 Z06. The first year of the C6 has some disadvantages which is typically reflected in the price like the LS2, weaker auto and the rear end has had problems.

Edmunds tells me my 07 1LT manual with 6,500 miles has a private party value of $21,105. I'm pretty sure I can get more than that if I were to sell it now.

How is a car that was 40-50k new still at 25-30k after the better part of ten years? 2005-06 would be somewhere between seven and nine years old, depending on how early they started the 'model year.'

I don't recall Corvettes (non-exotic ones, at least) ever holding value like that.

Personally, I'd be the stick in the mud and say keep the Hyundai. It's still quick and handles decent. More comfortable and practical. And the 2.0T's were what, 25k or so new? Good deal, IMO, and you still have plenty of powertrain warranty.

I wouldn't go for the 'vette unless I could afford a toy. For a single car, the Hyundai (or some other economical RWD 'sport coupe'...Z car...Mustang I guess...crap what else is there?) just seems like a much better daily driver.

How is a Vette any worse of a daily driver than a Z, Genesis or Mustang? Gets decent gas mileage, has a huge hatch, seats are comfy, and very easy to drive. Besides the tires that came on mine, it was a very easy car to daily drive as I put 12k miles in a year.

Corvettes will hold their value since a 8 year old one with low miles is just as good as a 3 year old model. The engines and trans are very reliable and the cars don't require expensive maintenance.

Preference, I guess. Corvettes are hard for me to get in and out of, for one. It's not an issue of strength or not fitting; crawling in and out them just gets old quick, especially when you're a good bit over 6' tall. A Z or Mustang is like an SUV in comparison; much more standard seating position that you don't kind of 'fall' into. Then there's the ground clearance (and ride in particular; I know, I'm the only one who criticizes this regularly).

It's mostly a lot of little gripes that I'd just rather not deal with. I like having a car that, while good to drive, is also easy to drive, for the times when you just want to get from one place to another. Everyone's not like that; but I would say that's something for the OP to keep in mind- take note of the little things, and ask yourself 'do I want this as my only driving option every day?'

The big neg is the 2005 is the first year and had some carry over from the C5.

If its a manual then its not as bad. But 2005 only came with 4 speed autos and the 6speed auto came in 2006 model.

i would expect ATG to take away my man-card if i bought a corvette with an auto.

row-your-own FTW!

apparently the C7 is supposed to go on sale in the 3rd quarter of 2013...must...hold...out...for prices to drop like a rock?

I don't see it. The C6 was a much-anticipated jump...here are current prices on ebay for '04 C5s and '05 C6s.

There's really not that much of a gap. I doubt there's gonna be a C6 fire sale.

I would not expect prices on the C6 to really drop for a couple years. There will not be enough C7s available to fulfill used car demand or enough new ones for C6 owners to move up quickly.
