Would it be sane to take three mathematical courses in the same semester?

Depends on what courses they are... I'm taking abstract algebra, advanced calc 2, and number theory next semester, and I'm not looking forward to it... this is on top of programing languages, autamita (sp?)theory, and anaylsis of algorithms... it's gonna be a bad semester:frown:
 
i wouldn't suggest it. Max 3 tech classes per semester, and having two of them be math would be waay too much =\
 
We have to take 3 math courses in one semester I Think

Calc 3, Advanced Engineering Math, Discrete Math, and two tech courses at UofT. We don't have a choice either.
 
I'm taking pre-calc and ap stats this year but I'm in high school so I couldn't tell you .. personally I wouldn't want to do it again.

I'm only considering taking discrete mathematics, linear algebra (which my old school never offered because no one else besides me would sign up for it), and probability and statics (the one with calculus).

i think you'll be fine. of course, this depends on how good you are at math in general.... discrete math will probably take the most time, depending on how tricky the problems are. other than that, shouldn't be too bad.
 
I took 20,000 math classes last semester and 40 million credit hours...

Yet all that studying hasn't taught me to be believeble.

I got A's in Calc I-III and ODE. But that probably doesn't mean anything.

how hard did you have to study? did it take up a ton of your time, or was it all pretty much easy for you? if it's the latter, go for it. i although i should mention that a lot of people are good at continuous math but not discrete... so keep tha tin mind.

Hmmm...maybe I should hold off on the discrete mathematics since it is not a prerequisite for any other class that I want to take.

 
It depends what they are - taking 3 of number theory, combinatorics, abstract algebra, cryptography, etc. isn't bad because of the overlap in the material. Taking 3 of Elem diff eq., real analysis, and abstract would be tough because you are doing so many different things.
 
Taking those 3 shouldn't be that tough - I found linear algebra to be really easy at the undergrad level, discrete math can vary but it's more about problem solving ability then anything else, and prob/stat isn't too tough either.
 
Diff.Eq and Advanced Calc is fine, combining them with Linear Algebra almost did me in. I hate Linear Algebra...... 😛
