would it be rude to ask someone whether they smoke pot or clove cigarettes? this one guy I work with always reeks of pot, but I guess it could just as easily be cloves.

ask him if he smokes...gauge his reaction. If he hesitates a bit, he probably smokes pot.

"I don't know or care what you're smoking, but just a heads up; you reek of it."

I only have experience with cloves. After I quit them I did notice they were pretty harsh smelling.
Not sure about weed. A buddy once told me it sort of smells like skunk.
Which would explain an aweful lot of unidentified odors I've encountered in my life.

Pot smokers are generally unaware of their level of "reek", yet think they are cool.
