Would it be possible for me to upgrade the processor of a Gateway Profile Computer?

My parents are giving me one that they aren't using any more. It has a 677mhz celeron processor, but I would really like to upgrade that. According to the website, it supports processors up to 1ghz. Do you think I would be able to just pop a higher speed processor in, and it would be instantly recognized?

You should be able to run Celeron's up to the non 'A' 1.1ghz or PIII's to the Coppermine 1ghz
