Would it be OK if i posted about my new NYC oriented forum?

I don't want to spam you guys but I'm starting a forum deficated to parties/shows/ and other stuff going on in NYC. You don't have to be from nyc to post there and it would be cool if some of you guys started some small talk there before I start advertising locally. But would it be kosher with the admins here? I dig the community here too much to spam, though my site is non-profit (no banners).
