as opposed to a Crown Vic or something similar.

anyone know? my father's saying it will be, i always thought insurance was based on the base vehicle.. in this case, an impala.

Yes, because it's a collectors car IMO Walleye. It's the same way a V6 Mustang & V8 Mustang are treated to different rates. 🙂

yep. It is slightly based on the base vehicle. The SS will be ^.

What he said. Nowadays a good condition 1994-96 Impala SS will sell for a pretty penny even though it's close to 8-10 years old, and insurance on it will be another very pretty penny.

If the insurance on the SS is high, why not just get a used "police special" Chevrolet Caprice? The rates should be better - and you could maintain that performance edge, too.

cops are the worst to the engines... and there isnt that much that can be done to em.

a 350 is a big engine with lots of potential. if i wanted to, there's a lot that can be done to it. hell, it's a modefied corvette engine.

Yes, but in my area, it seems like all of the "police special" vehicles are picked up by taxi cab drivers. The taxi drivers drive 'em into the ground. Maybe the cops are rough on them, but the vehicles can take it and should easily get to 300K on the odometer.

I own a 95 Caprice that I'm turning into an Impala SS Clone. Paid 2K. Has been a great driver for over a year now. As for the insurance ?, when I insured it, the Caprice/Impala was treated as the same car. Liability only on this one though, full would be different.
