Would I need more cooling other than the stock cooling with this build? I will NOT be overclocking.

The case link fails.

I'm not sure if this incarnation of the solo/sonata has provisions for a fan to blow directly across the hard drives. The solo does but doesn't come with a power supply (a plus for me since antec psu's often use 80mm fans). Check out cooler master and lian li cases. If you won't be overclocking, then a matx mb might suffice. The antec mini p180 is an excellent cooler - if not the quietest. This plus the corsair 400w or 450w are great combos.

In general, all antecs are good coolers. Most use the infamous 3 speed 120mm fan in the rear. If noise is not a concern, then the question is moot since on high it runs ~1900rpm.

choose a different case and PSU. about 40% of the cost of the Sonata 3 goes into the cost of the PSU in it. the case itself is crappy and feels cheaply made with plastic and cheap steel. the PSU is about the only good part of that, and even that is meh at best since the case has no cable management and it's not modular. for $70 you can get a coolermaster 690, which is a great case (i own one as does a friend), and then for $80 you can get a 500w Silencer from PC Power & Cooling. the end price comes out to $80 more, but your case and PSU wont suck, your system will be cooler, since the 690 has pretty good airflow, with room to expand out to 5 140mm fans and 2 120mm fans, 5 HDD bays, and enough space to fit the longest graphics cards out today. the cable management still leaves a bit to be asked of it, but for $70, its the best damn case period.

ed: if you want maximum cooling, my best recommendation would be to replace all the fans in the 690 with low speed yate loon 140 or 120mm fans depending on what fits. i had a ton of spare 120s on hand (some were nexus fans some were yates, same design and built within the same week), so i only put 1 140 in, but even so the system is inaudible @ 2 feet under my desk unless my single slot GPU (vanilla HD4670) spins up loud

The CM590/690 cases are extremely good cases under $100. Also, the stock fans aren't that bad anyway, just add in a couple more (although a caveat: the side fan slots for the 690 can cause noise due to the design, there's a loud buzzing sound whenever there's a fan on the side of the case on mine).

Either way, you shouldn't need any additional cooling if you're not going to overclock, the stock cooler is design to work for stock settings. However, with the 955BE you shouldn't overclock with the stock cooler, that chip gets immensely hot (even with an aftermarket S1283 my chip is idling at 45-50C with an overclock).

You recommend the OP spends an extra $40 to get a PSU that is the same quality and a case that cools a bit better but will also be louder?

The PSU you recommended isn't even modular, which you knocked the Antec for not being, and the case doesn't have any better cable management, which you also knocked antec for.

Not saying that the case is a bad one. But what I'd do is buy a CM Centurion 590 (basically a 690 with differend fascias and HD mounting for cheaper) and a different PSU than the PCP&C, which is overpriced. $80 on a PSU would be better spent on a Seasonic S12 II 500w, Corsair 550vx, or Antec EA650

lol the 690 has rather good cable management considering its price and size. im using a non modular PSU in mine right now and the cables im not using all fit fine next to the psu between it and my 140mm fan on the bottom, or routed to sit back behind the hard disks, none of which impede airflow. the 690 may not have any special holes cut for running cables, but it does have a channel in which i was able to fit my mobo power, 4 SATA cables and a PATA cable, SATA power, and a molex cable i routed to power an old PATA DVD Drive and all my fans that didnt fit onto the mobo headers. it's also one of the quietest cases i have ever owned (im not sure why yours is buzzing, my side fan isnt doing that). for $40 more it's leagues better, and he asked for opinions on if he needed better cooling, which i thought he did, considering the airflow design of the case he picked isnt great, as the case is cheaply built. anything much less than the 690 + a PSU of similar cost and you start cutting corners. cut corners on the PSU and you might burn out some hardware, cut corners on the case and your system will be louder and/or hotter. i see it first hand about 5 times a day, a customer comes in, cuts corners on one of the above (or buys the sonata 3), and within 2 hours they are back again asking me why i didnt spend longer trying to convince them otherwise, because one of the above either didnt work for what they wanted (overrated coolmax PSUs we sell for the cheap), or it wasnt built well and fell apart on them, wouldnt manage their cables well enough, or they cut themselves a bunch of times working inside of it. sure, the antec case may be a bit better than others in this department, but it's still marketed and priced in the same segment, with the same built quality for the case over all.

ed: ooh and i was wrong, the PSU is 70% of the cost of the case. it costs $75 by itself

The CM690 doesn't really have any cable managing features

And the cost % doesn't really work like that. Both of the items are at a discount...

Perhaps the OP should tell us if he can afford to spend a little more than the ~$100 for a case/psu combo?

*Edit*
I found a little better case/psu combo for a similar price (rebate is involved, however).
