If you have it, you'll notice a painless sore at the site of infection. That'll heal up within a month or two following exposure.

Within six months, you'll have a rash of the extremities(sometimes a grab-bag of other unpleasant symptoms)

Eventually, the neurological and cardiac complications will lead to insanity or death. Have fun!

From what I've read, only a really small percentage of people who get syphilis develop the really bad later stage that damages the organs and brain.

Yeah, because I'd sure hope that someone wouldn't let their dick burn until it killed them.

Theres a pretty good chance that you wouldn't know because many people never get the small painless lesion (called a chancre) or the rash however if left untreated long-term, some type of serious consequences are likely to result.

Further, even if you manage to avoid brain/heart other major organ damage, blindness or insanity, after a certain point syphilis can never be completely eradicated from the body even with 6-month daily courses of IV antibiotics.

In other words, if you think theres any chance you've been exposed, get your a$$ to a doctor & get tested! (duh!!!)

Syphillis it all started with a little kiss.
Now it even hurts to take a piss.
Oh where did I get syphillis.

Sung to the tune of Yesterday by the Beatles

Suddenly,
I'm not half the man I used to be,
My penis, it won't stop burning me,
Oh, syphillis came suddenly.

You can't get syphilis from sheep. You're more likely to have rabies.
