Wondering if anyone would know this. I have it hooked up to a ups, but am somewhat reluctanct to leave the pc unattended for this long. I'm using dsl service and use XP home edition. thanks for any input....robert

nah i wouldn't think so unless you regularly have big power surges or something. i think you'd find probably a lot of people on here leave their computers running for days/weeks at a time

both rigs in my room are never turned off
cant stand trying to get to sleep without 13 loud ass Antec fans whippin away 🙂

thanks for the input, but do these people leave the pc unattended? I won't be home at all for 4 days. thanks, robert

How long are you doing downloads? You could have a delayed shutdown command.

Something like:

shutdown -s -f -t xx

Xx=seconds till shutdown(use the calculator to convert from hours to min to sec)

I have a bunch of downloads queded up using Overnet, so would like to leave it running for the entire 4 days. How would i go about implementing a delayed shutdown...i use XP home and no download software as such?

In a command prompt, type:

"shutdown -s -f -t xx"

without quotes. xx=seconds till shutdown. You do not need to install any software to do this, it is included in xp by defualt.

You ll be fine. Make sure your firewall and AV are up.

I ve left my comp on DLing from eMule for 2 weeks at a time while on vacation.

Nothing is better than coming home and seeing all DLs done. 🙂

I've got three servers that run all the time, whether I'm in town or not. All are firewalled and all have UPS protection.

The only consideration I'd make is if you're overclocked or have a cheap PSU or case.

Got a solid case and PSU? Firewall and UPS? Let 'er rip!

The only thing you need to worry about is like a fire hazard. That is all i worry about, the computer will be fine as long as it doesn't create a fire.
