Would I benefit from doubling my system ram?

It's for my gaming rig. Here's the specs:

E8500 @ 4.2 on air
Gigabyte Ga-EP45-UD3P mb
4 gig GSkill ddr2 pc1100 F2-8800 CL5D
1 TB WD Black Caviar sata hd
Asus 4870 x2 (2gb ddr5)
Asus 4870 DK (1gig ddr5) in CF x 3
Corsair 750TX ps
Antec 300 case
Windows 7 os

tia 😉

No but your OC will take a hit.
no it wont, and what games? if you multibox MMORPGs then do it, if you dont then get a quad with the cash instead

ed: by no it wont, i mean that unless he is doing something severly retarded or his board is a really crappy bin, it would be under a lot less stress running 8GB than mine probably is, since he's only running a dual core which isnt going out over the FSB for intercore communications 🙂

Thanks for the recommendations. I see most of you responding are running 8 gig so I'm assuming you speak from experience.
I'm not concerned about "taking a hit on the o/c" since I've throttled back to 4.2 after running the "Intel burn test" on maximum while simultaneously looping 3DMark Vantage for eight hours @ 4.6 ghz. @ 1.36V. ( that Monsoon III's a damn good cooler w/AS5) so that rules out "something severly retarded" or a "crappy bin".
As far as putting less stress on my rig compared to a quad? Who gives a sh*t? I'll take 65w over 95w anytime. Beside's, it's not like I'm doing my auto cad at home while folding, while downloading a movie and gaming at the same time.
I've ordered another 4 gig kit so I'll see for myself.
Thanks for the advice.

the reason i recommended a quad instead of more RAM is because i also speak from experience on how awesome of an upgrade it was over my dual core. of course it depends on what you're running, but for what i do with mine it was a significant gain both going from 4-8 and going from a dual to a quad. now, obviously, your situation is a bit different than mine :awe:. put your cash toward an SSD instead 😉

Not yet 😉 . Prices are still too high for my wallet. What do you do that requires your own personal "Cray"?

Look at your peak commit charge. I doubt it ever reaches 4GB. Some games and Google Earth can use a lot of RAM but even then I doubt it.

Meh, I wish I would have bought an extra 4GB when it was like $36. Just running 4GB and a Quad, never ran out of RAM as far as I can tell...
