would getting led fans be a bad idea for comp in college dorm?

just out of curiosity for those who're in college...would it be annoying? will people be able to sleep, will roomates probably get pissed, or can it just be a cool thing to look at? Too distracting??? can't sleep with it???

They would be annoying at night unless you turned off your machine each night. Also, try to keep the fan noise down if you can manage it. Personally, I like having some white noise when I'm going to sleep. Some people like absolute silence.

yah i figure most people are gonna be writing papers at middle of night...


yah i'm going for a really quiet comp...well for my desktop, it's a 1.2 tbird @ 1.5...but i figure i can put one of those noiseless zalman's that run at 20dba in silent mode and if i have to underclock it a little...i have a lappy with me as well, i just need desktop for the storage.

i figure the next case i get will have a window, so i thought a cool little quad-led fan or something might be neat, but probably not practical.

The number does't matter much. If you have a loud fan, it will be loud... and several quiet fans is alot better than one loud one. I have 3 intake, and 2 outlet fans on my case and it is QUIET. Two of the intakes are silenced by the case's resistor setup and the other one is running at 5v. CPU is cooled by an Alpha 8045 with a Panaflo M1a.
 
led fans are great, if you get a rheostat/fan bus. u can control 4 fans with nifty knobs on the front of your case. nice and slow at night or at all times for sweet silence.

23 bux at pixelusa.com vantec/sunbeam. they look pretty nifty too, great store if your in the bay area. svc.com has a buncha 1.99 led fans heh. also bay area. even vantec stealths annoy me🙂 i love fanbus!
 
Just purchase a cheap Dell - Dell's a notoriously quiet. I've been building PCs for the longest time and that Dell big piece of plastic that leads to that huge case fan is insanely efficient .
 
well i'm trying to do the cheap mans upgrade...basically making most of my computer silent : P. i've never had a window though, so i thought a led fan might be cool to have...meh, no skin off my back. I guess i could just ask my roomates when i find out who they're.
