Would getting A+ certified over the summer for a 16 year old....

I have basically self-taught myself the basics of computers. I have read some A+ certificaiton books too. I think I could pass the exam. But is it really worth stressing out for it with studying, and that sort of thing? I have a had a lot of AP work over the summer, and I am wondering if doing this too would be beneficial. I know that since I won't be looking for a job until I am out of college, the A+ cert. will not help much for job searching, unless they require it. Would something like this, where I did something beyond what is expected of me to do, look good on a college App.?
I was dead set on getting it this summer, but now I am thinking I should just do sometime later, if ever.

It'll get you a job at GeekSquad. 😛

I've considered it myself, but in the end, I got too lazy. 🙁 Those exams aren't cheap to take either.

stress? studying?

are we talking about the same certification 😉

but seriously, I don't think a college admissions officer would care all that much.

I make it a point not to have those worthless certs.

So how's that working out for you? Do you wake up in the morning, look yourself in the mirror, and say "I am not getting my A+ cert today, I am not getting my A+ cert today!"

You must be a mega badass. Do you want to hang out this weekend?

at 16? be worth having. i do not think it will help you with getting in college or a job (well maybe at best buy or other entry level job)

but i will say if someone came to me with an A+ at 16 (after college) it is a positive when hiring.

Personally, I think certifications are worthless to begin with; and while an employer might care about them, an educator worth any respect will not.

no.
exactly.

I doubt the college admission people even know what an A+ certification is.
Bingo

Word.

As is my understanding college admissions people want to see material that would be good indicators of future college potential. Those indicators are found in high school grade point averages, standardized testings, essays, and so forth.
Getting some cheesy computer certification is not any sort of standardized indicator of potential college performance.

It certainly couldn't hurt. I know that a few years back, after getting admitted, I had to go on interviews with Department Chairs/Professors for scholarships. And these people certainly did know what certain certifications/awards were.

Fair enough, how bout getting some friends?

over rated.

they always want to come over and eat my snacks, drink my beer and reduce my neffing time!

If you want something that looks good for college, go volunteer somewhere like a hospital or a boys & girls club. That kind of thing will look a lot better, just make sure to mention it in your personal statement about how you like doing these good things, even if you have to lie about it. Ya, I'm not kidding, yes this is the state of affairs we are in today. Good Luck! 😉
