Would emulating windows 98....

be a very good idea instead of me setting up my system to multiboot into windows 98? Is it possible to play games when "emulating 98"? I was considering making a multiboot with windows 98/XP but because I already have XP installed, this task would be significantly harder so I've been told that I should just emulate it instead...
 
did you try running in compatability mode? I had NES emulators and that would work only on windows 98, so I made them win 98 compatable (Rightclick icon, properties, run as: windows 98
 
For NFS4 have you patched the game? Cos when I installed the original version it worked fine upder WinXP (incl. SP1 & 2). I remember trying one of the no-cd hacks before (before anyone flames me this was so that I could do multiplayer back in those days) and it didn't work, but that may also be the case for patches.
 
If you really want to emulate Win98, download QEMU and VMPlayer.

Use QEMU-IMG to create a vmware harddisk image, edit some settings for the vmware virtual machine and then load the settings file in VMPlayer.

You don't think I patched the game? Telling you, I did EVERYTHING except this which should obviously should work, though I'm not sure HOW well because it's emulating it and not ACTUALLY running it.

What? I'm confused, why would you create a VMware hdd image and then load it back into vmware? wouldn't I run it from QEMU?

You can't create virtual machiens using VMPlayer. You can only run them. However, you can create VMWare harddisk images (vmdk) using QEMU. I can't find the instructions right now, but you can find instructions on how to create a vmware configuration file. After the config creation, you can open VMPlayer and load the virtual machine. Then you can install Windows 98 and play your games.
 
Well they've got dos machine emulators out there now, I don't see why they couldn't make a full blown 98se one. Pretty much anything that only runs on 98 should still run fantastic on a modern machine emulated.
