Ok heres the story.

My system was working perfect for months running windows ME and 898mb of ram (3 256mb sticks and 1 128mb stick) on a voodoo3 3500

Ok now today I get a Hercules 3D Prophet DDR-DVI AGP and I install it. This is when I get an error at boot. Not enough ram. System hault. I?m thinking WTF I have 900mb of ram.

So I say ok maybe there?s some kind of conflict so i start swapping the ram around. I take out the 3 Kingston sticks of 256mb. And now I seem to be working fine? as soon as i reinstall the kindston ram i get Errors now.

Is the ram not compatible with my video card now? This same setup worked fine with my voodoo 3?

Thanks a bunch,
Shawn

You might've damaged one or more of your Kingston chips when you were installing the prophet. Try putting the kingston's back into your system one chip at a time.

Check out this MS article, it might explain some of what you're seeing.

Basically system memory >=768 MB can cause serious problems in any of the Win 9x based OS's.

Also, you're going from a video card that barely made use of the AGP bus to one that uses it heavily. That may be part of the problem as well. Keep it under 768 megs & see what happens.

The easiest workaround?

Reduce the amount of memory that is installed in your computer to 512 MB or less.

Or, go buy Windows 2000. 2000 doesn't have the problem.

Why in God's name do you need that much memory, anyway? With today's memory prices, RAM size doesn't even qualify for bragging rights since a gig of RAM can be had for <$100.

Lol viper... Yeah i got all 3 sticks of ram (768mbs) for 60$ shipped.

Dam maybe Ill install 2k later.. I have 2k i just did not want to install it yet.

ya know whats weird though. Is i had no problems with my Voodoo card installed. This is what has me puzzled. It must have something to do with the way the AGP card used the SDRAM

The end of the article specifically mentions AGP cards having an impact on it, so I'd say changing the video cards did bring out the problem.

Just drop to 512 MB, or install 2K. Either way you'll be happy (except for your $20 worth of RAM that you'll have to find another use for).
