I saved ONE bullet from the pistol I fired while I was @ LA. I really wanted to bring it home with me to east coast but I finally ended up not bringing it period because I didn't even want to risk the possibility. I was exhausted and just wanted to fly home.

Could that have caused trouble? Obviously no guns, just one small gold-colored pistol bullet in the size of my thumbnail.

My friend told me if it's in the check-in luggage, there shouldn't be problem. But I didn't want to risk losing my luggage period.

hide it in the chamber of the pistol. They will never think to look there, and even if they do find it, its harmless in there.

I accidently left a .243 bullet in a jacket in my checked luggage 2 years ago and nothing happened.

A bullet by itself is no threat at all. You're not talking about a loaded cartridge, just a bullet. You might get some funny looks, and a more thorough search, but you should be able to bring it with you.

you're not the brightest thing are you...

anyway, your friend was basickly correct, if its the shell of the bullet they would've let you keep it.
If it was a live round, then you gotta be a little loose bringing that thing with you to the airport.
