Would Avatar be a movie I could take a 7 year old to?

My son wants to see this but it is rated PG-13 so I'm a little wary of taking him to see this movie.

I wouldn't... but that's just me. It's not a kids movie IMO, it deals with themes that I think are too mature. Hope that helps. My son is only 1 but if he were 7 I wouldn't.

A lot of it will probably fly over his head, there are "epic battles" with lots of arrows, guns, and dead people, and a fair bit of swearing. 7 is probably too young for him to appreciate it, but you know him better than we do.

Well, he saw the latest Star Trek with me after I picked it up on blu ray...honestly, he seemed kind of bored with it at times though.

I am white...but I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.

It doesn't. He's a douchebag who feels it necessary to troll his racist views in every thread he possibly can hoping to steer it off course. I'm surprised he's still here, frankly.

The other concern for me would be the length of the film. Almost 3 hours is a long time for a 7 year old to sit in one spot.

My suspicion is that the price of admission and time invested would be almost completely wasted on a 7 year old.

I went with a 9 year old and he absolutely loved it.

Yes you can take a 7 year old.

depends on the kid. Only you know your kid, not us.

At 7, I was watching R-rated horror movies and the like. I got nightmares, but so what. Everyone is going to have nightmares regardless of what they watch, hell even Disney movies can give kids nightmares. Not every 7 year old can handle the same imagery.

A lot of the "meaning" is going to be lost on younger kids, but who says a movie has to be about meaning? Movies can still be thoroughly enjoyed without a knowledge of what the movie's grand purpose actually had been.

Lot of people took their 5 year olds to it...

If you don't mind seeing some PG alien 'sex', impalings and mild language, go right ahead.

I say yes, take the 7 year old. It's a great movie, and even if he doesn't remember or understand much of it, parts of it will stick. My dad took me to Empire when I was 3 and I have vague rememberences of the AT-AT scene and the final lightsaber battle. For the rest of my life I can say I saw Empire in the theaters, nuff said.

This is not a kids movie. There are a few disturbing scenes, language, and even a sexual scene (even not much is seen) that are not for a 7 year old child.

Yes but the question is will he understand it and be able to sit through a 3 hour movie with previews etc? When I was 5 I watched Jason and Nightmare on Elm Street, which is probably why I have a warped mind.

psh

Like I said before, only the parents knows whether there child can handle what they see.
When I was 7, 8, 9.. I was watching horror movies, gangster movies, Titanic (boobies! and okay, I was 10 for Titanic), etc. Not all the times had the parents actually known, but the point being... I turned out all right. :p

I had to check this on IMDB why it's rated what it is.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/
Rated PG-13 for intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking.
So now they rate stuff because of smoking? That is so lame!

I first saw Robocop when I was 7 years old. I loved that movie so much!
