I just got three $25 Futureshop gift certificates and might consider upgrading my Samsung 900NF 19" CRT (1152x864) to this 20" LCD. I don't watch HD movies on my computer (just DVDs on occasion) and I'm not much of a fan of the widescreen format. My CRT has a 17 3/4" viewing diagonal so I would gain about 2" horizontal and 1 3/4" vertical more viewing surface. The 1400x1050 resolution combined with the increased viewing area would not be too fine for my poor eyesight also. With the extra 248h and 186v pixels, I think fonts and stuff would probably look about the same size, just more of them.

I use my computer mostly for RPG and other gaming (need to install Oblivion and two IL-2 games still), web browsing and the occasional photochopping.

I cannot find on the site what type of display this LCD screen is and some comments I have read about other LCDs mention extrapolating (dithering?) to achieve the advertised colours for some display types. I would like to see good colour reproduction but I am not completely anal about it. More interested in how bright and vivid (contrasty) the images would be.

Compared to other LCDs, the contrast ratio mentioned seems lower but maybe it is good enough compared to my Diamondtron tube.

Anyway, feedback would be much appreciated in case I decide to go for this one at $269minus75.

if you think you will be happy with it, why ask for opinions?

personally i wouldnt touch a 20 inch with that resolution. i'd be very leery of lcd panels with lower than normal resolutions (1680 x 1050).

if you are just wanting this lcd b/c of that specific resolution, then you could get a 19in one thats just about the same (1440 x 900) and for much cheaper.

for example such as this

That is non standard resolution and you might not get it supported by graphics and games.

It's 4:3. With the driver for the LCD, my 1900XTX should support that resolution. I've also seen a Samsung and a Viewsonic with the same resolution at 20".

A similar resolution on 19" will make things smaller onscreen. A widescreen 22" would have about the same viewing area in different proportions but they are $100-150 more expensive).

I'm asking because I want some feedback (like you guys are giving) before making a choice. I may also decide to wait. I'm more concerned about the 600:1 ratio for contrast. Dunno if this is really low.
