Would applying AS5 to 7600gt lower temps?

IS AS5 better than the stock TIM? Temps aren't really a problem, but my hd is still in shipping to rma and I'm dying to do something with my heap of parts.

Go ahead, it can't hurt it. Just make sure that it's only on the die and doesn't get on the surrounding stuff.
That could be bad.

And YOU DON'T NEED A LOT!!!!!!
Like a grain of rice size is plenty.
Spread it out a little with an inside out ziplock bag then let the pressure of putting the HSF on take care of the rest.

In typical AS5 instruction fashion, how much should I put on, in short-grain pieces of rice of course.

Yeah, don't put alot at all. By doing so, you might actually raise temperatures.
