i got an ingrown toenail, i'm sure i've cut out all the offending nail, but i dont know if i can fix the infection by 2 days from now without cutting out all the offending tissue and pouring alcohol over all of it (and putting the toe out of service for weeks or more...) i will be backpacking on it sunday till thursday, so i need it healed (and canceling is not an option). i have some biaxin left over (powerful anti-biotic) i'm wondering if it would work on the infection...

Possibly. Depends on what the infection is and what the drug is designed for. But not taking a full course of antibiotics can cause problems. As with any medical thread: Go see a doctor.

You've got two days. That's plenty of time.

Edit: Well, I guess just one day. Surely someplace can get you in if you explain it to them. There's always the ER.

Use an anti-biotic ointment. Don't just take leftover(you shouldn't even have any) anti-biotics, that just creates other problems and may not affect what you have. Wash the area with a Saline solution(better than alcohol or peroxide) before applying the ointment. The ointment will probably require 3-4 applications/day. If you talk to a pharmacist he/she may be able to sell you a special oinment or other treatment.

Edit: Whatever you do, 2 days is likely too short a time to get rid of the infection. However, it may be well enough to not cause problems.

When you say "infection" what exactly do you mean? How big is the area and is it oozing etc?
