Would an unlocked Cingular phone work with T-mobile?

Right now, I'm paying $40/month for 300 peak mins, unlim. off-peak...just finished with a 2yr contract. Now looking to shop around for more mins (~600 peak), better reception than Cingular, and a snazzy-looking (and performing) phone.

As for the phone, I have a Nokia 6590, and I'd like to get a camera phone, but I'll probably end up just getting T-mobile's Nokia 3595

With T-Mobile you'll probably get more minutes than with Cingular. In California, however, T-Mobile phone use Cingular cell towers - so you're not likely to see any reception improvement.

You should be able to use your unlocked GSM Cingular phone with T-Mobile's service.

Good luck!

my locked cingular phone does not work with my sisters t-mobile card.
but her unlocked t-mobile phone works with my cingular card

Yeah, you're in Cali so the only difference you will see between Cingular and T-Mobile are the phones. I wouldn't make that switch.

And the price of the airtime.

In my case, that fact alone made it worth choosing T-Mobile over Cingular.

I've had Cingular for a while now and the CSRs need to switch to another system just to look up my account. I'm switching primarily due to the price and more mins

yes, as long as it is unlocked you will be able to use it. You will also need to find out tmobile's settings for things like GPRS (for WAP)/MMS/Text messages, etc. if these options are locked out in the firmware provided, you may need to find a way to flash it to the generic one where all the options are available for you to make the changes. Check out www.howardforums.com for the settings, they're floating around in a post somewhere.
