Would an old DSL modem cause connectivity issues?

My DSL modem's from circa 1997 or some such; it's Verizon DSL, but it has Bell Atlantic written on it to give you an idea of how old it is.

Anyways, would something like that give me a problem with my connection? If it makes any difference, I've noticed that it takes a time (~3 minutes) for my computer to acquire a network address once I reboot my computer.

Well... any info would be great.

its quite possible. i used to have a connection problem of intermittant dropped packets, high latency, ect. i blamed the isp over and over but it turns out it was the modem, doh! the only way to know for sure is to replace it...

I'm going to go ahead and call Verizon right now and ask them to send me a replacement modem, see what happens.

That's kind of like asking if an old car will give you driving problems. It depends on the car, but it's more likely than not.
