Would an Nvidia 650 ti SSC be an upgrade from an ATI 4850x2?

Currently have a 4850x2, long in the tooth now... but I'm also very much out of the loop when it comes to new hardware.

Looking at a 650 Ti SSC for a possible upgrade... but cant find any data to compare the two cards.

Any thoughts? Would the 650 be much of an upgrade?

Thanks all!

Actually, I'm not sure I agree with that. A 4850x2 was approximately equivalent to an HD5850, which is just slightly slower (~5%) than a 650Ti. BoFox uses a somewhat arbitrary deduction for dual cards that certainly distorts the results.

Given the drawbacks of older dual-card setups in newer games, however, the difference may now be slightly greater, bringing it more in line with the VP scale. Still, it's not much of an upgrade. More of a sidegrade for lower noise/heat/power.

Now, if that 4850x2 is the 2x512MB version, it's certain to be VRAM-limited in many modern games, and in that case the 650Ti would be an upgrade, but I'd still aim for something more substantial, like a 7870.

The GTX 650 Ti SSC is about like a GTX 560 performance wise with an insanely short PCB and very light power usage. If you aren't really in need of those benefits there are better choices for the money.

Thanks everyone for the feedback... I've learned a lot... most important of which is I will not be making this purchase for my upgrade. Instead I plan to hang tight and wait for a pre-Christmas HD7850.

Deep down I'm an Nvidia whore, but I can't argue performance vs price, and for that, AMD wins hands down.

Thanks again!

Well if you have an HD 4850 X2 you must have resisted Nvidia's amorous advances for some time. :p

Haha... quite true. But I assure you, my video card purchase options over the past few years have been limited only by budget, not desire.

The GTX 650 Ti is a great gaming card. It's about 10% faster than a GTX 460 1GB. The only downside is that there is no SLI goodness.
