Would an Intel mini-PCI 802.11b (for Centrino) card work in an Inspirson 8200?

I want to get a mini-PCI wireless card for my Inspiron 8200, but I'm not sure about how standardized mini-PCI devices are.

Yes in my opinion I believe it is possible, I modified my IBM 600x, removed the mini-pci 56k modem added a antenna and put in the centrino / Intel 802.11b card in. It works like a charm.

I took it out from another notebook, and opened the 600x's LCD bezel taped it on the back and ran the wires to the mini-pci slot

Where did you buy the antenna and how much did it cost?
Also, where exactly do you connect it? I also have 600x and would love to get rid of the PCMCIA card.

Do all Centrino notebooks come with the antenna built in like that? Older mini-PCI wireless cards didn't seem to require this antenna. I asked about the compatibility because Newegg and Dell only seem to sell mini-PCI cards for Centrino now.

AnyMal, he took the antenna out from another notebook.

If your laptop came with a wireless option (even if you didn't go for it) then it's probably pre-wired. Minipci card don't have built-in antennas because they are in the belly of a laptop the reception would be god awful.
