Would Allstate lower my premium , 143$, and give me a 500$ deductable if I told them I got a quote from all state saying they offer the same options, plus a 500$ (currently 1000 at allstate) deductable and 20$ cheaper then you guys (allstate).

would this fly if I called up my local rep?

Nothing to lose, just call up your rep and give him the info. If he can't do anything, switch. Easy.

I was with Allstate for 7 years. Paid on time and never filed a claim.

My bill comes in for year 8 and it's 4X higher than any other year. They tell me that they couldn't verify my driver's license, and I give them updated info. The price if now like 2X higher than any other year. It makes no sense to me, and I tell the guy it doesn't make sense. He says it is what it is and doesn't seem interested in looking in to it.

I switch to Geico and write a letter to corporate Allstate telling them what happened. I never hear back from them.

I hate insurance talk... pisses me off every time insurance comes up that I can't even shop around for insurance since it's all once price in this stupid state.

Two years ago, I decided to try Progressive's website, to see firsthand this whole "we give you 3 quotes thing." Well, all 3 quotes (Progressive, State Farm, someone else) were waaaaaaaaaay lower (literally, half) than what I was paying with Geico. I made a decision to go with State Farm. Called Geico first to inquire about dropping coverage so I could move somewhere else. Guy puts me on hold for a few minutes, then comes back and gives me a better deal than any of the 3 previously better quotes.

You've got nothing to lose, I'd say go for it. Heck, I've since checked again and see that I can knock another $15 or $20 off my monthly.

For the record, I'm 30. No accidents or tickets, and I have an '01 Jetta GLX. I pay about $99/month for full coverage, $250 deductible, rental coverage, roadside assistance, etc.

No, not usually... it still amazes me that people think that you can haggle with things like insurance.
With allstate, the rates are set, you cannot threaten and get better prices.

What alot of people fail to realize is insurance companies are in the business to make money. If an insured customer begins to become a liability, that insurance company will drop you in a heartbeat.

right, but not just because a person is threatening to leave.
they can make the policy less but changing coverages, etc
