Would adding a sound card affect temps?

After adding thermal paste, and then installing my old sound card because of onboard sound issues, temps rose 5C. Does adding a componant change a temp? Because I hear adding thermal paste shoild not change temps but maybe 1C.

It could depending on the card. X-fi's can get decently hot.

I doubt it should raise the temps that much unless its blocking a PCI fan or something. You put thermal grease on the CPU? Did the processor have thermal grease on it before?
