Would a UPS solve this problem?

I bought a house a few months ago and used the central heater for the first time recently.

Everytime I use it though, whenever it turns on, it dims the lights in the house (kind of like what a vacuum cleaner does). Since it is temperature controlled, the lights are constantly dimming whenever it turns on.

I think the heater takes a standard AC plug. My question is would adding a UPS help eliminate the dimming? Since I've got some pretty expensive electronic equipment, does this constant dimming damage my electronics? And finally, what other alternative are there to this? And no, burning down my house or moving out isn't an option :)

I had a similar problem years ago when I bought a house. Every time the refrigerator would cycle on the lights would dim. I called Edison and had them send someone out to check my connections. He found some loose ground wires in the service box.

Don't put a band aid on this type of problem. Call your power company to have them check your service. If they find nothing then call an electrician to check the wiring in your house.

A ups won't fix that, I'd have an electrician come out and check it out. thats not very healthy(electrically) for your house to dim like that..
