Would a Thunderbird work on a Gateway Athlon Motherboard?

I found a good deal on a used Gateway Athlon motherboard (AMD 751/756 chipset), but I'm not sure if it would be compatible with a Thunderbird processor. I says it is good for processors up to 1000mhz, so the multiplier shouldn't be a problem. I assume all I would have to do is adjust the cache multiplier and the voltage? Does anyone know if you can do that is this motherboard?

If you are not overclocking then it will work fine. The motherboard will pick up the multiplier and voltage. If you want to overclock, you will have to purchase a goldfinger device. With one of those you can adjust the multiplier, and I think some can adjust the voltage as well.

So you are sure that it automatically picks up all the settings, even though the board was designed for the higher voltage Athlon?

I've got the power supply taken care of. So you are sure the motherboard will automatically adjust the voltage?

It should... just find the latest BIOS update. The MB should read the voltage settings off the CPU and set it accordingly.

I've seen these mobos on EGAY. They are Jamil or something, BIOS support could be difficult, its a bargain for a reason.

It's most likely the previous version of Gateway's Athlon motherboard, which was made by Jabil.

The current product is an MSI board with the VIA chipset.
