Would a sprain cause this?

Happened today when I was playing football, I was going to go to a doctor to see if it was broken, but about 20 mins later I was able to bend the finger with decent flexibility (couldn't straighten it or bend it totally). It's been marginally swolen until now, but looking at it, it's bruising up all over, and the middle joint looks like it's got blood under the skin... and the bruising didn't come out in the picture as badly as it really is...

just to keep my mind from getting away from me, if the finger was broken, I'd barely be able to move it correct?

put some ice on it, id go to the hospitial cause of teh blood under the skin, if its not broken you may have torn a ligament or something

Jam. They usually hurt worse than breaks. Ice it, and try to keep it from moving. All a hospital will do is put a finger cast on it (Waste of time, IMO).

EDIT: Note, all bruises are from broken blood vessels, meaning blood under the skin 😉

If you have access to some padded finger wrap, I'd recommend it. Just wrap once around the finger and then a second time around an adjacent finger.

yeah that's what I thought, that's the reason I refrained from going to the hospital since it didn't really feel like a break (never had a broken anything before)

thanks for the helpful info guys 🙂

badruth, good idea, I'll grab some tape/gauze tomorrow 🙂

hmm, the blood is spreading still underneath the skin... if it spreads to my hand I'm going to the doctor's 😛
