Would a s754 retail fan work with a s939 heatsink/processor?

Yes it should do.

socket 754 and socket 939 stock fans and heatsinks are identical.
So yes it will work.

Only thing which could prevent compatibility is the way the fans are mounted on the semprons, they are not attached by screws but just click in, so if u take another fan and try to mount it, it could not work.
