Sounds like you might think its OK.

After you've defined it, provide some proof or even some evidence to indicate that it exists in everyone.

Until this is done, any speculation on it is just wishful thinking.

Its usually assumed to mean the same thing as what scientists refer to as consciousness - the subjective awareness of your own self.

There should be a separate forum for discussion of the paranormal. What ever happened to grossing each other out with Mr.Hands and neffing? :(

Identical twins are clones. Thus, do both identical twins have souls? That question will help you answer your question.

Great post dullard.

As for the cloning of a whole person just for Parts: The Clonus Horror
The idea is quite silly. All we need is the cell signaling pathways to properly manipulate stem cells, and we could grow any organ we want in culture. Why grow a whole person when you just wanted the heart, or a replacement hand? We can already grow cartilage into any shape we need using a scaffold. Of course C. Elegans and drosophila will be the first species to benefit, as they're the ones first used for developmental biology research. http://www.abc.net.au/science/k2/moments/s1644154.htm

I suppose if you're against stem cell research, then the only realistic alternative would be to grow whole people for parts.

The more controversial question really is: Does a collection of a few cells have a soul? The assertion that a clump of cells has a soul is what drives the anti-abortion fanatics. Of course, at the eight cell stage you can seperate the clump of cells into eight separate cells that will all procede to develop into a whole individual person. If you do that, are you creating souls, copying souls, or dividing up one soul into eight? If the latter, then identical twins share souls. If that clump of cells has a soul, then does a cancerous clump of cells also have a soul? Is curing cancer murder?

I don't believe in a soul.

Murdering a human, whether or not it's a clone, is legally and morally (morals are relative) wrong. There is no hell. Spare body parts are decaying and wouldn't make a feasible body part. You're a moron.

The cloning for spare parts was kind of a side question. I just want to know if people thought science will be advanced enough to create a soul. I truly believe that science is bringing us closer to Godliness.

Identicle twins have identicle DNA? And fingerprints? And....

Ah ok. I didnt think so. Guess they arent clones.

Clone of physical body is just a physical vehicle, like a car.

The individual person inhabiting the original body wouldn't also be present in the clone.

Some other disembodied soul, unrelated to the person who seeded the cloning, may inhabit & enliven the cloned body. Probably a lower, less spiritually evolved being still hanging around the physical plane.

I'd imagine that after a long time, many years, the clone body would gradually diverge away somewhat from the physical appearance of the original, under the different influence of the inhabiting soul's mentality, since the mind effects the body & changes it.

If you happen to be an exceptionally sensitive person, perhaps on some occasions when you are extremely calm & centered, you may see some of the disembodied souls all around, like tiny floating fireflys of light?

Would a human clone have a soul??
Yes, if it was enlivened as a person it would, but not the soul of the clone seeder.

Edit: But I'm not sure if a soul would have any way to enter & inhabit a clone body.
At the instant of conception the sperm penetrates the ova, a metaphysical "doorway" flashes open at that instant for the soul to enter the human embryo.

A test tube cultured clone wouldn't experience any such "door opening" opportunity.
So on second thought, maybe a soul would not be able to inhabit the cloned body.
I wonder?

Eventually, this will be possible. But it's going to require more than just the signals. It's going to require the signals to come from certain places - the cells grow depending on where the other cells are. It will require an absolute mastery of transcriptional regulation and a fully developed genome and biochemical map...I can't see it happening for more than at least a century, unless there is a major revolution in Molecular Bio.

Then again, Molecular Bio is only 50 years old, so who knows!

We can already grow cartilage into any shape we need using a scaffold.

Cartiledge is easy...it's essentially homogenous. The heart on the other hand, is far from it.

Of course C. Elegans and drosophila will be the first species to benefit, as they're the ones first used for developmental biology research.

Most definitely.

If you believe in the concept of a soul, yes a clone then would have its own soul.

A clone is not an identical copy of something else in all respects. It is merely a copy of the genetics, the parts list. Clones could end up being significantly different than their "parent", everything from height, weight, personality, etc... would most likely be different, Yes they would would probably look similar to each other, but that would probably be about it, kind of like identical twins (which are in effect, natural clones). Even they have disctint physical differences, and different personalities.

so yes, a clone would have a "soul"

I am almost 100% sure that identical twins have the same genotype. its one egg and one sperm split into two during meiosis?

anyone confirm?

Only fraternal twins.
Sorry, 1 egg + 1 sperm = 1 soul, just the way it works. Identical twins, sorry, you've got to share a soul.

Identical twins absolutely have the same genotype. They are genetically identical.

There are however, other factors which come into play during development which could lead to differences between the twins, especially for women. X-chromosome deactivation wouldnt change the genotype, but could change the phenotype, but not always directly visibly.

Minute differences in the environment during development account for fingerprints. Your fingerprints are not encoded in your DNA.
