Would a 92mm Panaflo M1A be better than a 80mm YStech@5000rpm on my SLK900A?

The 92mm Panaflo L1A is not enough. My room is like an oven and my case temps is about 35-40C right now :frown:

Need more cooling for the CPU!

That info isn't really necessary to answer the question is it? ;)

Anyway it's almost always consistently 15-17C above case temp. Right now my case temp is 37C, CPU temp is 54 and I run SETI 24/7.

I have no idea how an M1A would affect it. Your processor temp isn't bad, especially for that level of OC, and it shouldn't be heating you case up that much.

My temps never got that high on my 2500+ even when I had an L1A 80mm on my SLK900a.

What is the rest of your cooling setup like? The SLK 3700 AMB comes with a 120MM exhaust. Do you have an intake in the front? I beleive I have read that cutting out the grilled area in the front significantly improves cooling for this case. It is a rather small case, which is fine in and of itself, however a case that small with that kind of overclock is going to run hotter than a server chasis would.

nice OC btw.

Umm... sorry to be the one to tell you this, but having a better fan isn't going to reduce the amount of heat in your room. If anything it'll increase the ambient room temp.

The reason is that your computer will always generate a certain amount of heat. No cooling will ever reduce the amount of heat generated. The way water and air cooling works is by simply moving that heat outside of the case. You get lower temps with water cooling because it's more efficient at moving that heat. Operative word there is move. Not reduce.

If you improve your fan cooling system, that'll just mean there's more heat in your room, and less in your case. What you should be doing to reduce room temps is the same thing as you would for your case. Move that heat out of your room.

There are cooling techniques that do in fact reduce heat, but none you'll be using in a computer (compressors don't really reduce heat, simply compact the air density making it able to store more heat).

Other than getting an air conditioner installed, not really sure how to help you.

On the other hand, if you mainly want to reduce you cpu / case temps, then by all means, fan away :D.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention that another thing you can do to reduce your heat output is to lower your overclock, but not sure how much having a cooler room vs faster computer is worth to you...

Yes I'm totally aware of all that :) I'm not trying to cool my room, I'm trying to cool my CPU! I'm in a college apartment room with air-conditioninig but it's not working that great :|

My SLK3700AMB has the rear grill cut out, a 7v 120mm Panaflo L1A as exhaust, a 5v 120mm Antec fan that came with the case as intake. Maybe I should increase my air intake and see what happens.

So should I still go for the M1A?

Edit: Noise is less of a concern now, since my air-con is making much louder noise than my machine
