since the asus P5W DH Deluxe was announced over the weekend, and my summer build is coming up, i would like to know if the 7950GX2 will work in that mobo. i heard that it needs an sli board, and of course, intel only has crossfire support.

or should i get a 7900GT/GTX or just wait for directx10 cards to come out?

thanks for your help!

Wait for first gen DX10 cards if you enjoy playing Half Life 2 and Quake 4 on a 9700 Pro.

I'll be waiting till all the major DX10 based engines are out , then buying a DX10 card. Possibly a year till Vista is released, then 2 years after that for UnrealEngine4.0 ect.

Till then, buy something to enjoy todays triple-A titles. GX2 would do the trick.

No it won't work in a 975x Motherboard as it requires a SLI Motherboard.

As for the 2nd question, do you really need to upgrade inside the next 2-4 months? If not then wait for G80/R600 & DX10.

unfortunately i have to, as my existing computer is going to be an HTPC for our family's home theater, so i need to buy components around the time core 2 duo comes out. i could buy a 7900GT/GTX and sell it around the time G80 comes out.

my current computer is no slouch either. just the memory and video card need to get upgraded (as per my how to play 1080p videos smoothly thread) to 2GB and a 6600GT, respectively.

hopefully the 3 month step up will be in effect around the time G80 will come out...

yeah thats what i will do. i will buy an eVGA 7900GTX and step-up to G80...if my time period runs out, ill just sell it and get a G80.

but it might not be out in 3 months........just try to put off buying the card as long as you can, then once you finally cant take it, buy the 7900gtx and then your chances will be better by not missing the G80 launch period.

hmm, so what AT's review says..." However, it is important to remember that 7900 GT SLI requires an SLI motherboard while the 7950 GX2 will work just fine in a board with only a single X16 PCIe slot (with proper BIOS support)."

does that mean that the P5W DH deluxe will support it? i sure as hell hope so...

Get 7950GX2 if you have the money/budget. its a single card solution and does not require a sli mb. It'll work with your mb as long as there is a PCI-E slot.

else, 7900/1900 should be fine for now...
