Worthy Upgrade: 9800 Pro to 6800 GT

I wanted to get your guy's opinion as to whether it would be worth upgrading my current ATI Radeon 9800 Pro to a Nvidia 6800 GT? Will there be a noticable increase in performance on my XP 2500+ Barton @ 2.2Ghz? I'd be eBaying the Radeon to help pay for the 6800 GT.

Thanks!

The 6800GT should provide a nice boost in newer, shader-heavy games, and should be far faster with high res + AA + AF. Yes, your CPU will hold you back at relatively lower resolutions, but a 6800GT should essentially give you full IQ gaming "for free," while also granting faster performance in GPU-limited titles like Far Cry, Doom 3, Half-Life 2, etc.

But you should look at as many benchmarks as you can tolerate before buying. Start with Anandtech's recent video articles, particularly the ones that focus on a single game over a wide variety of cards. Gamespot's HL2 and WoW hardware guides are also interesting.

I was in your position at the end of July and made the trade, selling the 9800pro for 175 and getting a 6800 GT. What a difference. Higher resolution gaming with as much eye candy as you want (except for Ultra in DOOM III). Don't consider not upgrading. You'lll wake each morning with a satisfied smile on your face.
