Hi there, I'm deciding whether or not if I need to replace my sempron 3100+ cpu ( @ 2.069ghz )with another socket 754 processor. There is a deal going on on newegg with the 3400 A64 w/ a free mobo. The great thing about it was that the free mobo i'm looking at is exactly the same that i'm using (the biostar). And grabbing an Arctic Cooling 64 HSF unit + the combo will cost me around 140 ~ shipped.

Should I pull the trigger? Because, I would try to test the new chip out with my already owned Mushkin Blue 2 x 1gb XP4000 modules.

Gaming (nothing special) and I'd been using it for almost 1 1/2 yr now.

GPU: X850XT AGP stock

Games I owned so far....

MOH: pacific assault
Farcry
Doom 3 and expansion
Call of duty and expansion
Painkiller and expansions
Serious Sam II
Star Wars BattleFront II
Fear
NFS: Most wanted
Fable
Dungeon siege II
Unreal II
UT2k4
RTCW and RTCW: ET
C & C and expansion
Command and COnquer collection
HAlf Life and expansions
Black and white 2
Chronicles of riddick
Quake 4
Oblivion
Dungeon and Dragons : Dragonshard

Actually it ran pretty well on all of the games, especially on oblivion. But I feel that the x850xt agp is not getting its full potential. Although it scored 6129 3dmark05 last night :p

i don't feel the cpu is holding back the gpu. is gaming good for you? honestly if you go a higher cpu, then you will need a higher gpu which means a pci-e board. i game bf2 and with my setup in sig after moving up from a x800xtpe i am now lcd limited....and the cycle continues, but i don't want a 1600x1200 lcd atm. i am not sure if any/all of those games are cpu limited, you may want to look at some benches to see if moving up made a difference, or if you are happy with your visual quality/fps now, i wouldn't worry about and move up when you need it.

I think you're right. I Just came back playing some Painkiller just now for an hour. My gosh, it's still a beautiful game. with 1280x1024 with everything at the max 4x multisample and anistropic filtering. I get almost a steady 70-100 fps.

Maybe I'll just grab a new HSF unit lol.
