Would an upgrade to a 2500 Barton be worthwhile? Look at my sig for my system specs.

Well, the SN41G2 doesn't have multiplier adjustments. I can hit about 180 on the FSB, but I also try to run my system fans at near-silent speeds.

I've looked into this exact upgrade scenario. The trouble is, with both chips you're limited to multipliers of 12.5 or lower. With PC2700 memory, that means you can only hit 2083mhz. I have two 1700+ tbred-b systems, and they both run at that speed without any issues.

I would suggest that a memory upgrade would serve you better than the cpu swap you're proposing. Just sell off your old stuff on the for sale forum and pick up some pc3200/3500 stuff.

Agreed, that 1700+ probably has at least 2.2ghz in it...

Sell your 2700 for about $65-70..Pick up a stick of Hyper X or Corsair for like $110...

You will be set.

Yeah, I've consdiered moving up to 1 gig of memory. I'd have to use two 512mb sticks, since I want to take advantage of dual channel.

if 1840mhz is the max yur t-bred is giving you and yur sure the cpu is limited at that then I would say go for the upgrade
but most t-breds clock just as high if not higher than the bartons and the added cache makes very little noticable change in gaming
so I would recommend only upgrading to it if you need the cache for a particular program or if you just want to upgrade for the shear fun of something new
