I have a desktop computer I bought in 2005.

Specs..

3.0 ghz P4 w/ 800 fsb
1gb dual channel ddr2

I wondering if it would be worth the upgrade to a dual core amd 64 and about 2gb ram. Ofcourse i know the ram will help, but if I'd be about as well off I'll just throw some ram in what I have.

If you upgrade to a Core 2 Duo then I would say that now is the time to upgrade, Ram is cheap, Intel just had a huge Price drop, and Conroes are simply amazing. Of course, what Magnus said is correct, it does depend on what you use your computer for.

I use my computer a lot and multi task pretty heavily. I game every now then also. I've been looking at the Intel Core 2 Duo processors and it's looking like it blows away my p4. Is that true? What's a known good board? I've bought bad boards before, and that sucks!

What do you actually do with your PC? Your computer is still pretty good.

FYI the Gigabyte DS3 and Asus P5B-Deluxe are great C2D boards.
