Worth upgrading to 64 bit windows yet?

So how are you guys on the other side fairing so far with Windows 64?

Should I cross over or do you think there's still time to wait?

I have been using Vista Home Premium 64-bit for about a year now and have had no issues whatsoever. As long as your hardware is supported (proper drivers) you should give it a try, especially if you have more than 4GB of RAM.

Software is another issue as there may be some compatibility that may creep up, but unless you are using legacy software you should be fine.

There are minimal performance gains to be had. The main benefit is the ability to use more memory.

If you are using less than 4 gigs of memory, then you will want to go with 32 bit Vista. 64 bit Vista is actually pretty good and I have no qualms in recommending it. The switch from XP to Vista is the best time to go 64 bit because you will be dealing with some minor Vista incompatibilities anyway.

kinda sucks that it uses double the ram than 32 bit though... thats why you NEED to have atleast 4GB...

Well it does use more RAM than Vista32, but it's not double, in fact I'd say it's only around 1.25x altogether.

Not really, 32bit cannot allocate more than 2 gigs per application, so ram hungry games will not perform well (like Flight Simulator X, Crysis etc).

Most people will never experience this problem. If you are a gamer and like running the latest and greatest, then you should already be running 64 bit Vista with 4 or more gigs of RAM.

I just installed Vista 64 last nite.So far a couple of minor annoyances(no driver for my printer and also my webcam but I'll probably get Vista ready replacements.)
