I've got a server system I salvaged from work to possibly use as a ZFS server at home. Currently it has an ASUS DSBF-D/SAS motherboard, 8 GB RAM, and an older Intel Xeon 5030 processor. I've found some L5420's on ebay that I'm thinking of buying for $150/pair.
Currently, with no hard drives attached, that motherboard and processor pull almost 160 watts. Seeing as the 5030 processor is rated at 95W and 65nm, while the L5420 is rated at 50W at 45nm, I'm assuming I could use two CPUs at approximately the same power requirements, right?
I realize it is older tech, but except for the price of a couple CPUs it is free
200W is what I would like to keep the system under, so I guess I'm asking if my assumptions are right that the two L5420 cpus should pull about the same power as the single 5030.. for 4x the number of cores...
