worth upgrading my x1950 to DX10 card?

I was wondering if it is worth upgrading it to an 8800 so I can have DX10 support. I am also concerned about upgrading now before my 1950 loses it's value when ATI and Nvidia release more cards.

Don't worry about upgrading. Until true, full DX10 supported games are released and Vista is fully optimized, and upgrade isn't worth too much. You're fine.

No video card keeps it's value. You are probably already too late as people have already started dumping their X1900/X1950 cards for G80 based cards.

hehe I can remember the same sort of questions back when the 9700 Pro first come out....the way I look at it is that if a next gen card (like the 8800) can offer much better perfomance then current generation video cards than it is probably worth the upgrade in the end.

I still remember all those idiots that own GF4 TI's and reckoned that a 9700pro was pointless....I find it funny that a 9700pro still can run a lot of games reasonably well at lower resolutions were as a GF4 TI can't run squat.

Yes I was an early adopter(late 2002) of the 9700 pro and I never regretted it...I just hope that the 8800 will perform as well for so long.

JeReMY ,
I understand your question completely.

Selling your current card before it loses its value to help finance a newer / faster card is always a good idea with the cost of high end cards nowadays.

Heck, i dont even look at it like i own video cards anymore.

I RENT video cards for about a year(or 6 months), then sell it , add $100 or so to the money i get for my old card and get a new card....LOL

Even if you do it twice a year, and each time you have to take $150 out of your pocket to add to the selling cost to get a new card.

$150 x 2 = $300 a year to constantly play with the latest hardware.

Not a bad deal in my opinion.

No need for an EvGa step up program, i'm on the MTDEW step up program!
