Worth upgrading my video card?

Hi all,

I just pruchased a 1080p LCD TV...would you all think it's worth upgrading the video card in my sig for playing games at 1080p (1920x1080)?

The little 8800GTS (g92) has run everything I've thrown at it at 1600x1050 just fine, but I dunno if it'll have the grunt to play the games I play at 1080p.

If you think it's worth upgrading, what would be a good upgrade that wouldn't be hugely expensive? (~$300 range)

I've also been thinking of getting a 45nm intel processor, since my mobo supports it, or maybe I'll just OC my E6750. Wish my motherboard would take DDR3, haha.

Depends what you want to play. My 8800GT manages 90% of new games at 1080p with 16xAF and 2xAA Supersampling at 40-50FPS, however, games like Arma 2, Crysis etc. are the odd ones out.

It's slowly growing a beard though, and if you overclocked your CPU it'd be worth it to upgrade the graphics card.

Sorry, I should have specified which games. Mostly WoW and steam games. I liked Crysis but I'm finished playing it, haha.

I'm gonna run some benchmarks when I get home and see what my computer can do.

If you play Source engine games and older stuff, then don't worry. You'll be able to max them out with ease at 1080p.

Why do you care about getting it to 13-14k? Your 3dmark score means absolutely nothing (barring an abnormally low score). If you get sufficient performance in the games you play, upgrading your video card would be a waste of money regardless of 3dmark scores. Don't upgrade just to boost your synthetic benchmark results.

I have a MSI 4890 pushing an Acer 23" 1920x1080 monitor with relative ease.

Crysis is the most demanding game, but it still remains in the upper 20s, but will drop to upper teens at times.

I'd like to point out my system specs are pretty similar

GA-965P-DS3
E4300 @ 3.0Ghz
4x1GB DDR2800 @ 5-5-5-15
2x74GB Raptors in RAID0
Corsair HX520 - 520Watt PSU

My 3dMark06 score is around 13.1, but I think it should be closer to 14K. I think my RAM or this mobo could be my limiting factor.

I believe. Newegg shows it as the H233Hbmid. This monitor looks better than my 32" 720p LCD in many aspects.

A 4890 is a good chunk quicker than my 8800 :). I guess I'll see how the 8800 does and upgrade accordingly.

My 9800 GTX was just starting to struggle on my 37" Westy. I upgraded to a 4890 and I no longer have the occasional slowdowns and performance glitches. I am glad I upgraded. I think there was a 4890 for $125 in hot deals a few days ago, not sure if it is still active or not, but it is still on the first page.
