I have a Sager 8170 laptop. Thing has been awesome since day one but it's now like 5 years old and starting to show it's age with the newest games.

Trying to play Fallout 4 now and for the most part it works ok with some lowered settings and gets really slow at spots. I play all games at 1920x1080.

Specs:

I7 2670 @ 2.20 gz
8 GB DDR3 PC1333
Radeon 6900M 2 GB
17" screen

Apparently only 2 of the DIMMs are user serviceable according to the manual.
So right now it has 4x 2 GB DIMMs. I think it can support up to 16 GB with 4x 4 GB DIMMs.

I'm not going to send it in to have them replace the 2 that are not user serviceable, so I would only replace 2 of them with 2x 4 GB DIMMs to make it 12 GB.

I was thinking about G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-8GBSQ for $54.99 on Amazon and I get free 2 day shipping.

Do you think it's worth it to updgrade first of all?
If so, is that a good upgrade or do you think I do better or cheaper?

I think the only current game that really benefits from more than 8GB RAM is Arkham Knight. I don't think it's worth it to upgrade.

There's your problem.

I figured as much. Not sure I can replace that myself? Manual didn't mention it, but I know I can remove the card. I thought it was dying at one point and I did the oven trick and it started working again. I had asked them about replacing the card with a similar model and they still wanted like $400-500 for such an old card. thats like 1/3 what I paid for the laptop new.
