Worth Upgrading GPU?

Hi guys,

One of those common questions I guess, but I hope you guys can help me decide will it be worth my while to upgrade my graphics card?

My rig is about 4 and a half years old running Windows 7 Pro:

Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz
2Gb Ram
550 Watt PSU
7950 GT (1Gb Memory)

I can play Crysis and DOWII and the like - but on low and DOW II in particular stutters a fair bit. I am thinking of upgrading and getting the benefits of a DX 10 card, a GeForce GTS 250 and capable of running current games smoothly at at least medium settings. Will this give me a decent performance increase or would any improvement require getting more RAM as well? I want to keep upgrade costs down as much as possible.

Hmm, sorry should I start anew thread and delete this one?

As per res - nothing too fancy just 1280×1024

I think it would benefit you greatly if you slapped on a nice cooler on that E6600 and overclocked it a bit. Another 2gigs of RAM would not hurt either. Then I'd suggest a new videocard, maybe a 5770 to go along with it.

Of course, you may just be better off building a new rig.

Keep in mind to check the power draw of a larger GPU. With a 550W PSU you could run into power issues depending what else you've got in there.
