Worth upgrading from Altec Lansing 251 speakers?

Running an x-fi extremegamer and thinking about upgrading my speakers, but not sure if it's worth it. I would probably go with the Logitech Z506. From the old reviews I've read, these were pretty badass PC speakers for their day, but thinking they may not be up to snuff for something like the x-fi.

altec lansing + quality = not found
go shopping;)

Agree! Altec-Lansing is a "el cheapo" spin off of what was, and still is, a high quality speaker company - JBL (James B. Lansing). Their studio monitors have a solid track record for high quality.

Speakers that are focused on the computer market are generally cheap. For really good sound, upgrade to audiophile equipment. It works on computers as well as high end audio systems.

How are the 2.1's and X-fi with reproducing 5.1 sound? I really love having surround sound, but I recently moved and have to put the back left speaker right next to the front left one.

I haven't yet dabbled in anything beyond 2.1; guess I'm old school and still stuck in the analog world. One of these days, though. Just need to figure out a way to set it up that doesn't make a mess in the office.

Hey now, don't knock Altec. I still have several ACS48s at the folks rocking (and have been for the last 13 years).
Personally, I've stepped up to Promedia 2.1s throughout the house, but the ACS48s still pack a punch.
