Worth upgrading CF HD6870 1GB cards?

Just curious. If you owned two HD6870 cards in CF, would you upgrade to a new card right now? If you were semi budget-concious? Both cards originally cost $248 or so each. (Bought them when they were brand-spanking new.)

CPU is Q9550 @ 3.5Ghz, resolution is 1920x1080.

For 1920x1080 your CPU is fine.

I'd sell those and get a single card. But that depends on what you can get for them.

No totally unnecessary,if i were u I will wait for the 8xxx series to arrive coz theres a lot of juice remaining in the 6870 CF

Not unless you are running multiple monitors and need more Vram. VirtualLarry, just to drive the point home, you can see my rigs in my sig below. I use the 680GTX in rig 2 because of the 3 monitors. Rig 3 also has a 2g Vram 6970 but the 680 GTX is clearly faster for 3 monitors. Now, just for fun I hooked up the Hanns G HZ281 ( a 27.5 inch 1920 x 1080 monitor) to rig 2 ( disconnected the 3 24" monitors).

I went from the same cpu, ram and nearly same HDD with 2 5850 in CF to a 680 GTX. Guess what? Feels about the same. Those 6870s in CF will last you a long time. If I owned them with 1 1920 x 1080 monitor I would snag either a z68 MB and 2500k or the newer z77 with a 3570. OC the CPU and let those twin GPU puppies breathe. You have too much $$$ invested to jump to a 7970 or 680 for bragging rights. ONLY if you go multiple monitors where you need more Vram would I get a faster card.

If u are happy with CF stay where u are ()🙂

I would have some concerns about crossfire but other then that if you are happy with it the only thing that would beat it is another crossfire setup.

All of this crossfire stuff is massive overkill for 1080p.

A single 7970 oc or 680 oc will own your setup as it does to 6970 oc and 570 sli in terms of experience and usually within 10-25% in terms of fps. Fps wise it would pwn yours big time. Overall no comparison

I wouldn't upgrade at this time. (I'm not; I'm running 6850CF on 5760x1080). Just turn some stuff down if necessary, and wait until a single mid-range (and more importantly mid-price!) card will perform as well or better as your current CF.
